Week 5, Excel Analytics and Visualization
The lab turns the Summit Gear receivables into six Excel charts that answer the controller's two questions: who pays late, and how much cash is tied up in aging receivables. The homework reads an AR dashboard, ties a few of its numbers out in SQL, and tests two leaders' claims against it. Sep 21 to 27.
The full lecture deck, with the Ask AI tutor built in. Section 002 meets Monday, September 21 and section 001 meets Wednesday, September 23. Open it before your session or work through it afterwards.
The data work, the six charts and what each one shows, and the four checks every chart has to pass. Upload your workbook as <uID>_lab_05.xlsx by Sunday, September 27, 11:59 PM MT.
The dashboard Homework 5 asks you to read. This link holds the as-of date at March 31, 2026, the date every homework answer is read at. Its AI tutor can coach how to read a panel, but it does not see the numbers, so the reading is yours.
The dashboard's raw customers and invoices tables, with a helper view, in a SQL editor that runs in your browser. Part B asks you to reproduce a few dashboard numbers here and paste the query you used. Its AI tutor coaches the query, and it will not write it for you.
How to build each of the six Lab 5 charts in Excel, step by step: the PivotTables they read, the two pies, the January column, the stacked column, the weekly line with its trendline, the scatter and the histogram.
Predict how well a straight line will fit, then reveal it. Anscombe's four datasets share one trendline and look nothing alike, which is a good reason to plot the data before trusting a fit statistic. Useful before you write the Lab 5 trendline read.
A chart is a claim someone is making. This page covers claim, evidence and read, the biases that bend a read, and a checklist for testing a claim against data. Homework 5 asks you to do exactly this with two leaders' claims.
